City of Stanton closing park amenities and playgrounds Thursday in response to COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

Stanton, Michigan, MAR 26, 2020 – Beginning Friday, March 27, 2020 at 8 a.m., all outdoor park facilities and playground equipment are considered closed to the public.

The decision to close comes after recent executive orders issued by Governor Whitmer concerning the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak.

Mayor Williams commented, “To deter people from using a park right now is not a popular decision, but if this is what it takes to conquer this virus then we will do what needs to be done.”

Parks and playgrounds included in the closure are: Maddie’s Park, D. Hale Brake Park and playground equipment at Stanton Elementary School. Alternative exercise activities such as walking, biking, hiking and running are being heavily promoted.

“Residents can walk the trail or stroll through downtown for exercise but keep in mind the 6 feet buffer for social distancing,” Mayor Williams added.
